Located just outside Derby's ringroad, and right by the River Derwent, The Smithfield is a traditional alehouse that has recently been re-launched, and with a lovely new exterior sign to boot.
Fittingly for a pub located by a river The Smithfield has an outdoor seating area, meaning you can have a refreshing pint whilst relaxing by the Derwent – and there is plenty of outdoor seating available.
Inside the Smithfield there are two rooms – a main area, and a rear room that can be used as a function room. The bar is located right between both rooms with serving points available in both rooms (so no need to move to the main area for service).
As for the drinks range, The Smithfield certainly does live up to being an alehouse with 8 eight real ales available, and on Mondays you can get selected real ales for only £2.50 a pint.
Cider fans are also catered for at The Smithfield with up to four real ciders available. Craft beers are also available along with traditional pub drink and snack offerings.
If you fancy something a bit more substantial to eat with your drinks then The Smithfield also have food available on certain days. For football fans there is a match-day menu including burgers, filled cobs and chips. For those of you who like a traditional roast you can check out their Sunder dinner menu, whilst there is also a BBQ menu available on some Sunday events held.
Several live events take place at The Smithfield on a regular basis including Acoustic Sessions every Wednesday, other live music on some Sundays, and various Meet The Brewer events throughout the year.
As a traditional pub The Smithfield has so much going for it including excellent ales and a great riverside location. The pub also benefits from having friendly bar staff who are very welcoming.
So if you like your traditional alehouses as well as being able to have a drink by the river then The Smithfield is a pub that you should definitely visit.
