The East Midlands’ premier retail and leisure destination, Derbion, has announced the return of popular charity initiative, Derbion Cares, for the second year running.
Following a successful launch in 2022, Derbion supported local charities YMCA Derbyshire, RSPCA Derby & District and Safe and Sound with over £37,000 worth of support, including over 180 hours of Derbion staff volunteer time, sponsorships, fundraising, facilitated donations and free space in-centre.
Derbion is excited to start supporting and fundraising again in 2023 and is searching for one local charity partner for the year ahead, which will allow the centre to focus its community efforts throughout the year.
In 2022, Derbion Cares delivered support to each of the three charities, including transforming an allotment from a run-down space into a place for reflection, and running events such providing a free hot meal for the local community and a Christmas Fun Day for YMCA Derbyshire. Safe & Sound were provided with funding for outreach and engagement with young people throughout summer, and used Derbion’s Community Hub for a dedicated youth club. Additionally, Derbion worked with RSPCA Derby & District by hosting an event to celebrate a local RSPCA adoption success story, which raised over £700 for their 150 Hero Appeal campaign.
Derbion Cares believes in supporting the next generation to build a better future, most notably by focusing on the aspiration gap, as well as running and supporting a regular calendar of charitable events in and around the city. Derbion is looking for registered charities that are proactive with clear goals, who also have a dedicated team and resources for events that the centre can support.
East Midlands-based charities can apply to be Derbion’s chosen charity for 2023 online at www.derbion.com from 5th January. Once applications are closed, the Derbion Cares Committee will review the applications and select a charity to support for 2023, with the successful charity announced by the end of March. Following the selection process, the Committee will then devise a calendar of events to support the charity.
Adam Tamsett, centre director of Derbion, said: “After a successful first year of Derbion Cares, which has provided real value to the community in Derby, we’re thrilled to announce that the initiative will return for a second year in 2023.
“In 2023 we want to elevate the Derbion Cares initiative to have an even greater impact on the community, and we hope that through channeling our resources into supporting one chosen charity we can deliver a higher level of support and create a lasting impact on the charity and local community.
“We know that the local area has hundreds of worthy charities that would benefit from the support of Derbion Cares, so we’re especially looking for registered charities that are based in Derby and Derbyshire that give support to our community and support the next generation to building a better future – examples could include, but are not limited to, mental health, health, education, employment, children services and social welfare.
“The centre has a long history of supporting local charities and is the headline sponsor of Run For All’s Ramathon for a second year, and we see this activity as an extension of the fantastic work that the team already undertakes.”
Applications for Derbion Cares will close on Sunday 29th January, to find out more and to submit an application, please visit http://www.derbion.com/derbion-cares/.
